Passing of Life Member #15 Reg Newsome

It is with a heavy heart and much sadness that Penrith Referees inform you about the passing of Reg Newsome, Life Member No.15 last Monday morning.

Reg joined our Association in 1975 and served with distinction undertaking various roles but most notably that of Saturday Appointments, where he dedicated so much time to coaching and mentoring our young referees. He also held other positions including:

Appointments Board 1979-81, 1984, 1986

Delegate Schools Committee 1978-79

Delegate Junior League 1980-81, 1986

Patron Junior Branch 1978-82, 1986

Junior Coaching Officer 1982-84

Social Committee 1978-1981, 1986

Vice President 1985

Jack Harris Merit Award 1980, 1986

In 1982 the Reg Newsome Most Improved Junior Referee Award was struck in recognition of the work Reg did for our younger referees. In fact this was the commencement of what we now refer to as our pathways program. The winners of this award over the past 40 years  are a "who's who" of our Association.
