Two Penrith Members Selected for National Championships

This time of year brings incredible opportunity for a number of match officials from around the country with the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League (ASSRL) and School Sports Australia (SSA) National Championships played annually. Only a handful of referees are selected to officiate in these elite tournaments under the coaching and guidance of some of the games most respected mentors.

Some of the best schoolboy talent in the country will assemble on Sunday (June 21) for the ASSRL National under-15 Championships in western Sydney.

The under-15 Championships will be played at St Marys Leagues Stadium from Sunday 21 June through to Friday 26 June.

In all, ten teams from schoolboy associations and State Leagues will compete throughout the week, culminating in the National under-15 Final, as well as the naming of the Australian Schoolboys Merit Team and Australian Pool B Merit Team.

Penrith Referee's Association member Tim Hannon has been selected as the NSWRLRA representative to officiate at this prestigious tournament. This is a fantastic achievement for Tim, which follows on from his appointment as the referee for the 2015 Harold Matthews Cup Grand Final.

A second Penrith member has also been selected to represent NSWRLRA at the SSA under-12 National Championships to be played in Darwin this August. In just his second year of refereeing, Brayden Lee has demonstrated immense talent and performed consistently, which has led to his selection. This will continue what has already been a great year for Brayden having officiated as the referee for the under-12 State PSSA Championship Final in Cronulla earlier this month.

We wish both members the very best of luck for their respective appointments.
