Stindl to Make Debut in Top Fixture

This weekend marks the culmination of Division One competition in the Penrith District with premierships to be fought out and decided at Pepper Stadium this Sunday. The main event will be the A Grade Division One Grand Final to be played between St Clair and St Patricks, kicking off at 3:00pm.

Last night Penrith Referees Head of Coaching and Development Jenny Yates and Sunday Coordinator Greg Yates, both former NSWRL Graded Members themselves, made the announcement that Tom Stindl will take charge of the fixture, becoming the 29th A Grade Division One Grand Final referee in the Association's 50 Year history.

Tom joined the Penrith Referees in 2007 and in the same year received the Peter Browne award as the referee for the Under 8's Division One Grand Final. In 2009 Tom was awarded the Reg Newsome for the Most Improved Junior Member, and the following year he received the Michael Grady Junior Merit Award. Tom continued his progression through the Penrith District and was later included in the New South Wales Rugby League Junior Representative Squad where he began to make his mark both the with whistle and the flag. In 2015 Tom received the Bob Kandelas Trophy, nominated by his peers as the 'Referee's Referee'. Stindl, now 23, has been a regular in the A Grade competition in recent years and has continued to perform well throughout the season and finals series.

His appointment comes the same week the Penrith Referees Association will celebrate their Golden Jubilee with a Gala Event to be held at Rooty Hill RSL on Wednesday, 24 August 2016, which is shaping up to be an incredible evening reflecting on the past 50 years.
