Russell Turner Appointed to Origin One

Congratulations are again in order for Penrith Referee's Life Member Russell Turner who has been appointed as a Touch Judge for State of Origin One at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday.

This continues a career that is already beyond impressive and it all started when Russell joined the Penrith Referee's Association in 1988.

Russell went on to referee the 1995 A Grade Division Two Grand Final and was a Touch Judge for three A Grade Division One Grand Finals. He was made a Life Member of the Penrith Association in 2005.

Russell was Graded to the ranks of the New South Wales Rugby League Referee's Association in 1998 as number 859. He made his NRL debut in Round 2, 2001 in the match between St George and Balmain at the SFS. His NRL number is 64. He has since officiated in an incredible 334 NRL games and still counting.

Next Wednesday will mark Russell's 12th State of Origin appearance, with his first being Game Two of the 2006 series. It is worth noting that he has been involved in some capacity in 8 of the 9 series played since his Origin debut.

Russell is still a very active member of our Association and could be found as recently as this past Tuesday down at Jamison Oval sharing his touch judging expertise with our new members. He is nothing less than a legend and an idol of our Association and we wish him all the best for next Wednesday night.
