GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION

Almost 50 years ago at 7.30pm on 24 August,1966, 16 referees gathered in the Board Room of the old Penrith Leagues Club to form the Penrith District Rugby League Referees' Association.

As we approach our 50th birthday or the 50th Anniversary of our Association, we are planning to celebrate with a special event which has been in planning almost since we celebrated our Silver Jubilee in 1991.

Below is some information regarding the proposed celebration:

Who is responsible for the planning the celebration of our 50th year?

The Board of Management has approved the formation of a Golden Jubilee Committee to plan and oversee all activities relating to the 50th Anniversary. Members of the Committee are Gary Haines, Peter Filmer, Brett Lynch, Jenny Yates, Josh Burton and Luke Burton. Rohan Best has also been invited to assist the Committee.

Is there a special event and when will this be held?

Yes, a special function to celebrate our 50th Anniversary will be held on Wednesday 24 August, 2016 which is exactly 50 years to the day that the Association was formed. The Committee is excited to confirm that this function will be held in the Tivoli Room at Rooty Hill RSL Club.

What is the format of the function including dress standard?

The night will be a very special one for the Association and all those who attend. It will replace our annual Life Members' Presentation dinner which means we will hold a separate Presentation Night later in the year. Dress standard is black tie for men and formal for ladies. The standard will be strictly enforced for all attendees.

How much will it cost me to attend?

There will be no cost to members and invited guests. The Association has been planning for this event for many years, including setting aside funding to cover the cost of the night.

Are other events planned?

The function on 24 August is the major event. Penrith Panthers and the Penrith Junior League are also celebrating 50 years so we are mindful not to have too many events. Junior League grand final days are expected to be special days for all those involved.

Will there be mementos or gifts on the night?

Yes. The Committee is currently considering a range of options including commemorative port, coasters and polo shirts. Other items including a 50 year DVD and a new logo for the Association. Members will new kept informed as these options are progressed.

How can I contribute?

The Committee is seeking the contribution of memorabilia including old photos, reports, documents, jerseys, reports, videos, etc. If you have any that might be useful, please send them to webmaster@penrithreferees.com.au or in the case of jerseys, an e-mail advising what you have will suffice at this stage.

Members are also encouraged to submit any suggestions through the above e-mail address.
